What we see in Malvern
Malvern is one of the grander parts of the City of Unley — large Federation villas and Californian bungalows on wide blocks, most built between 1900 and 1930, most renovated at least twice since.
The recurring issue is layered work. A house renovated in the 1980s, again in the 2000s and again recently will typically have three generations of cable in it — some original rubber, some 1980s TPS, some current — all running back to a board that has been extended rather than replaced. That's not automatically dangerous, but nobody knows what's on which circuit, and a Malvern rewire is often as much about documentation and circuit separation as cable condition.
The other constant here is scale. Large homes with high ceilings, big lighting loads, ducted air-conditioning and increasingly two EVs, all sitting on a single-phase supply that's near its limit. Load assessment before adding anything significant is not a formality in this suburb.
